Penalties for Non-compliance

Local authorities now have the power to search and inspect properties suspected of operating as an HMO without a licence. They are in the process of carrying out an extensive ward by ward search and are compiling a register of all HMO's within each.

Fines of up to £5,000 can be incurred for non-complying HMO's without a valid Licence.
